It appears that the vast majority of our members love the club, and are always trying to be helpful and to make suggestions.... many of you suggest activities and events but an increasing number of members have been trying to help with subjects like social networking, marketing, helping to welcome new members etc.
Many of you have helped in the past and continue to do so on an informal basis and so I was wondering how we could tap into your enthusiasm and loyality to Zest while at the same time utilising some of your valuable skills. Most of these roles are very time consuming and with a little help from our members we could work together in ensuring the long term success of the club which ultimately means lots of new members and a greater variety of activities and events on the calendars.
Here's a suggestion of just some of the roles that we could assign to some of our members:
P.R.
Some of your have marketing and/or PR skills or maybe you are someone with in interest in the media, journalism, etc . We need to keep up a presence in the local papers and on the radio which is very valuable in helping to spread the word and attract new members. If anyone would like to tackle this area or if you have any suggestions to make, we'd love to hear from you!
It might be that you are willing to leaflet drop or put posters up in your workplace or loacl area - all help gratefully received!
Photographer
Whilst the vast majority of events are photgraphed it would be useful to have some 'deputies'! It may be that you are booked onto the event yourself and manage to get a few photos or that you go along to spectate and take pictures - either way it would be very useful for us to have members helping out with recording events... I know that you all like to see yourselves in the galleries!
For each gallery we need 20 good shots which include all of the people taking part - with a few group shots too. In order to send them through you will need some IT skill as pictures will need editing slightly so that they are suitable to be sent and uploaded.
Facebook Manager
We have many members who seem to spend a lot of time on Facebook - I regularly get challenged to play games so that you can bask in the glory beating me or get slapped round the face with fishes!
Social networking is a fantastic way of spreading the word about Zest but the job of updating the Zest group page and contacting members and prospective members is very time consuming.
If you are a regular Facebook or MySpace user and wish to help out please get in touch. Jon Neal has already created a group for us on Facebook and MySpace and we are looking for people to administrate these groups by adding events and photos and for someone to manage the overall content.
New Members' Contacts
We are looking for a group of volunteers who would be happy to help new members settle in. The job really is to talk to new members about the club, introduce them to existing members when attending their first few events and generally being supportive to new people.
So many of you do this already - something that I really appreciate and couldn't do without your support. If we could get together a list of people who woudl like to do this on a more formal basis I could give your name as a contact to new people. New members are often more likely to want to talk to existing members rather than me and so it would be useful to be able to put them in touch with a local friendly face.
This would not take up too much time - I'm hoping that if we get a few volunteers from each area Preston, Blackpool etc it may be only 1 or 2 people a month that you would be the contact for. As you all know, everyone at Zest is very friendly and so in a very short space of time, new members will feel right at home!
Members Representative
I am very aware that we do not have a formal procedure in place for feedback from our members. If anyone currently has a problem, complaint, concern, suggestion etc the only route for expressing this is through me.
I think it would be a good idea for there to be Member's Representative (or two) so that member's could voice their issues anonymously and that feedback could then be passed onto the team so that any necessary action can be taken.
Social Events Co-ordinator(s)
By this I don't mean for someone to be doing my job, but someone who may want to take on some responsibility for organising regular social meetings, e.g. the regulars at the pub quiz, regular drinks, Sunday lunches etc. We make no charge for these events and I know that many of you would like to see more of these nights on the calendar. If we could work with one or two of you in this area then we will have lots more happy members!
Walks Leaders / Coordinator
We already have a list of people who have kindly volunteered to lead walks. Ideally we would like to offer at least one walk every week. Again there is no charge for walks and they go ahead because of the goodwill of our members. However, the time and energy that it takes to organise a regular programme of walks is considerable and so if you are happy to help out we would be very grateful.
All of the above are voluntary positions and, as I've said, many of you already help out with these areas. You can volunteer to give as much or little of your time as you wish. This is your club and with your help we can work together in making Zest a great club for the benefit of all members.
If you'd like to help out please either post a message here or get in touch with me directly. Once we have a few people who are willing to take on some of these roles we can organise a regular meeting to ensure that our members have a say in the direction and day to day running of the club.
I look forward to a deluge of applications!

I have a bright idea. I often find new places in my area to put leaflets and posters. Maybe fellow Zesters in their area could place leaflets in their local areas eg TICs, libraries, even leisure clubs, hair salons and bars etc?
Cheers
